Markandey Katju, the former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, has opined that the 'disproportionate number of hijab clad women in Shaheen Bagh in Delhi has created impression it is a Muslim show, thereby unwittingly alienating most Hindus, which will benefit BJP in Delhi elections'. Why could not these women have come without hijabs?, he asked. He was referring to the Shaheen Bagh protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Population Register or even National Register of Citizens. The Citizenship Amendment Act aims to fasttrack citizenship to persecuted minorities of three Islamic countries in India's neighborhood.
