Dr Anirban Ganguly, the Director of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF), pointed out to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that her 'paying tribute to victims of CPM massacre in Marichjhapi is spraying salt on open wounds: 1. Remember they were all Bengali Dalit Hindu refugees- you are now opposing citizenship for them 2. You had promised to institute an enquiry into the Marichjhapi massacre after you came to power, but all you did was to dump your promise & decided to give them a dole of rice at Rs.3 a kilo'. For you that is the worth of the Marichjhapi massacre victims! I am amazed at your false tribute!!, he said. It need be mentioned that West Bengal is to go to election for state assembly in year 2021. The reaction came when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted that 'on that day, thousands of innocent people were killed on the chilly island of Sundarbans. Prayer to those who lost their lives in this incident. Most of those killed in those days were poor and left-behind people in the society'.
